New CHC Commercial Partners: Danske Bank UK
As part of a series of blogs on Community Housing Cymru’s new commercial partners for 26/27, Relationships Director for Social Housing, Terri McCullagh, explains why Danske Bank UK chose to form a new partnership with our sector.
Why did you choose to become a CHC commercial partner?
We believe the partnership will provide Danske Bank with opportunities to build long-lasting, strategic partnerships with Community Landlords across Wales and allow us to add social value to our funding offering.
Amid a housing crisis, it is more important than ever for the Welsh social housing sector to expand affordable housing delivery, decarbonise existing stock and strengthen their long-term resilience.
We can provide flexible funding and sector expertise and work collaboratively with associations to support sustainable investment and positive outcomes for their communities across Wales.
What services do you offer?
Whilst we provide full banking services to our customers in Northern Ireland, we provide Revolving Credit Facilities and Term Debt to social housing customers across England and Wales. We can also provide interest rate risk management solutions for our customers.
What contact have you had with the social housing sector so far?
We entered into the English Social and Affordable Housing sector in 2015 and expanded into Wales in 2022. Social and Affordable Housing is now Northern Bank Limited’s largest sectoral exposure.
We believe that Danske Bank’s strategic objectives align perfectly with the sector and would like to continue to expand our lending in the Welsh Social Housing sector and add value, where possible.
How can Danske Bank UK support housing associations in Wales?
We believe we can provide finance solutions to social housing providers across Wales to help them to deliver their social purpose. We are confident that we can be a strong strategic partner to our customers and provide added value, when needed, through our relationship lead approach.
What are the key opportunities for the social housing sector in Wales and what role do you see your organisation playing in helping associations make the most of them?
Amid a housing crisis, it is more important than ever for the Welsh social housing sector to expand affordable housing delivery, decarbonise existing stock and strengthen their long-term resilience.
As a commercial partner, we can provide flexible funding and sector expertise and work collaboratively with associations to support sustainable investment and positive outcomes for their communities across Wales.
