One Big Conference 2024

It's back for 2024!

One Big Conference 2024

Our One Big conference is heading to the Metropole Hotel & Spa for 2024.

This popular event, taking place on 4 and 5 July will bring together housing association colleagues and partners for two days of inspiring keynote speeches, workshops led by industry experts, thought-provoking discussions and networking opportunities.

Taking place in Llandrindod Wells, the conference will provide a space for sector leaders and managers to discuss how the services they provide, and the new homes they deliver, can reflect the diverse makeup and needs of their communities.

What's it all about?

This year’s One Big conference will focus on delivering and developing homes for diverse communities in challenging times.

The conference will explore innovative approaches to engaging tenants sensitively and effectively across a range of areas, from repairs to retrofit. It will also consider the diverse needs of communities and the services which are provided to tenants, from neighbourhood engagement to asset management.

At this event, we will also be discussing how housing associations factor community need into the design, development, and delivery of new homes and champion diversity and the integration of the natural environment.

Who should attend?

Our One Big Conference is aimed at housing sector staff from all levels within finance, housing management, development, safety and asset management - and board members too.

Is it CPD certified?

Our One Big Conference is now CPD certified, and delegates who attend will be able to record their attendance as CPD hours and points.

Being CPD certified underlines our commitment to creating and providing enriching learning opportunities for delegates, and sharing best practice from across the sector.

Those who attend will be provided with a certificate, which will contribute to their continued professional development.

Who is chairing the conference?

Our conference chair for the two days will be Welsh journalist and presenter Sian Lloyd.

Sian is a familiar face with viewers across the UK from presenting national programmes, including BBC Breakfast, and the BBC Crimewatch Roadshow to Panorama. She has also reported on key moments as a senior news correspondent for the BBC.

Sian Lloyd will be chairing the conference.
Stuart Lawrence is speaking at One Big.

Who is speaking at the conference?

We will be joined by a number of leading speakers and panellists throughout our conference.

Our first announced speaker is the RT Hon Stuart Lawrence, who will be joining us on day one.

Stuart will be sharing his own story and his family’s experience of racism and institutional bias. He will be talking about how to tackle the realities of grief and trauma, what he learned about how to remain resilient when times are tough, and how to harness the good in yourself and others to create the change you want to see.

Our second announced speaker is Heléna Herklots, Older People's Commissioner for Wales, who will be joining us on day one.

Heléna will be discussing how, as a housing sector, we can ensure that older people's voices are heard and acted upon.

Our third announced keynote speaker is Amanda Newton, chief executive, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, who will be joining us on day two.

Amanda will be talking about the importance of professional and cultural curiosity in delivering the customer experience, and really understanding who lives in our homes.

Our fourth announced keynote speaker is Dr Gifford Rhamie, founder and executive director of Rockstone Consultancy, who will be joining us on day two.

Dr Rhamie will explore how to move beyond simply tolerating diversity in housing and instead cultivate “conviviality” – the art of living well together. He’ll discuss the challenges that can arise in diverse neighbourhoods, but more importantly, offer practical solutions.
