CHC statement: £13m uplift announced for homelessness and housing support services
Following its final budget announcement, Welsh Government has today confirmed that an additional £13m has been allocated by the Minister for Climate Change to uplift the Housing Support Grant budget to £182.3m for 2024/25.
Community Housing Cymru campaigned with Cymorth Cymru to ensure the grant was uplifted in line with inflation for 2024/25, so that services were not forced to reduce or withdraw, and frontline workers could be paid fairly for the life-changing work they do.
Commenting on the news, Rhea Stevens, head of policy and external affairs, said:
“A £13m increase for the Housing Support Grant is truly brilliant news. We are really grateful to Welsh Government, Members of the Senedd and everyone who has supported this important campaign.
“This funding uplift means that homelessness and housing support services can continue for another year - and, importantly, workers on the frontline who directly change lives can be paid fairly.
“We will now work with Welsh Government and local authorities to make sure this extra funding reaches front-line workers
“Long term, homelessness and housing support services need a sustainable multi-year funding settlement that ensures these vital services continue for as long as they are needed in Wales.”
