Housing Futures: A massive opportunity for the sector

Housing Futures: A massive opportunity for the sector
Over the next 18 months housing associations across Wales will be collaborating on an unprecedented scale, coming together with colleagues in England & Scotland to tackle housing’s biggest challenges. Edwina O’Hart is the Futures lead at Community Housing Cymru. She tells us what to expect:

I am excited to kick-start the New Year with Housing Futures.

Housing Futures is the biggest collaborative innovation programme ever undertaken in housing – created and led by housing associations. It demonstrates the scale of our ambition as a sector.

Housing Futures forms part of Alcemi, CHC’s programme to equip members to be fit for the future. It is being run in collaboration with the National Housing Federation, the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations and ?whatif! Innovation experts.

Why Housing Futures?

The ability to create and own our future is more important now than ever and requires new ideas and meaningful collaboration.

As a sector, we’ve always turned challenges into opportunities to make a difference to people's lives. Housing Futures gives us an opportunity to do that on an unprecedented scale.

The purpose of the programme is to build a culture of collaboration and innovation in the sector, invest in our people, build new capabilities and come up with new solutions to shared challenges through products, services or approaches.

This ambitious programme will look at identifying challenges, gathering insights, coming up with new ideas and making them happen.

The new products, services or approaches will of course be really important, but for us – the most important part of the programme is the innovation process. This is going to make the biggest difference. By learning, by doing, and by working together.

What’s the challenge we need to focus on?

The key to good innovation is falling in love with the problem. So we’re beginning the programme by inviting members to identify the big housing challenges we should work together to tackle through Housing Futures.

We want to hear from you. Please share your thoughts with us by 7 February 2020.

We are also running a number of workshops in February to identify the challenge. As well as the opportunity to shape the challenge we bring forward, the workshops will also equip you with innovation tools and techniques! We're encouraging tenants and housing association staff to get involved in the workshops. Further details and links to book can be found here.

It’s going to be a fast paced and exciting programme and we hope you are ready to get fully involved.
