Cross-party call to protect Supporting People budget

Assembly Members from all four parties in the National Assembly have come together to call for the protection of the budget for the Supporting People Programme Grant, in a Statement of Opinion tabled last week.

The statement - co-tabled by Torfaen AM Lynne Neagle, along with South Wales West AM Bethan Jenkins and Conservative & Liberal Democrat housing spokesmen Mark Isherwood and Peter Black - calls on the Assembly to recognise the importance of the Supporting People Programme in preventing homelessness and allowing people to leave independent lives. The statement also points out the cost savings the programme makes, and calls on Welsh Government to offer protection to the programme in its upcoming draft budget.

CHC has written to all AMs and Welsh Government Ministers to lobby for protection of the SP budget along with other vital preventative services, such as Care & Repair Cymru. We are urging all members to contact their local AMs to discuss these issues, and to ask them to show their support for the statement.

The statement is available to view here.
