Affordability Tool
In summary
Our Rent Affordability Tool is designed to assist Welsh housing associations with interrogating affordability data and making decisions on rents. The tool was developed by HouseMark, based on a version originally created by the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations.
It is available free of charge to CHC members. The tool calculates affordability measures for a proposed rent entered by the user. It also allows the user to see how the rent and affordability measures compare to other local social landlords.
A range of income types and household sizes can be used for testing. Household incomes are calculated using the methods developed by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
The attached guidance has been developed to assist you with navigating the tool.
How we develop this area of work
The tool will be updated on an annual basis to reflect the latest rent and incomes data available.
