Good governance is fundamental to the success of all organisations.
The CHC code of governance is designed to support good governance and continuous improvement within housing associations in Wales. Its principles, rationale and outcomes are universal and apply equally to all organisations. However, the way in which organisations apply the recommended good practice to meet these principles may vary depending upon an organisation’s size, income, activities or complexity.
In May 2021, we published an updated version of the code.
It has been strengthened to support the housing association sector’s commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion and to taking a proactive approach to tackling discrimination. In addition, there is a renewed emphasis on culture, values, and the right to feel safe; and clearer guidance to boards on tenant and staff participation in decision making, links to the local community, and environmental sustainability.
