Sign our Coalition against Usury

28 January 2014
The Senedd, Cardiff Bay
12:30 – 1:30pm
Sponsored by Jeff Cuthbert AM

With the introduction of direct payments and Universal Credit, we are launching a new campaign to urge tenants not to turn to illegal money lenders. The event, in conjunction with the Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit, will highlight the dangers of using illegal money lenders and urge those who have to seek help and advice. The campaign will include a television advert, social media material and PR led activities.

In addition to the launch of the campaign, we will also be using the opportunity to widen the discussions to look at ways of combating poverty in the communities we serve. This discussion will be chaired by Victoria Winckler from the Bevan Foundation.

Confirmed attendees include the Archbishop for Wales, Most Revd Dr Barry Morgan and Sian Williams, Toynbee Hall.

We will be asking attendees at the event to support the following statement:

"I sign up to join the ‘Coalition against Usury*’ - tackling the issue through awareness raising, advice and access to affordable credit"

*Usury is the practice of making unethical or immoral monetary loans.

If you would like to attend, please email jenny-horton@chcymru.org.uk at your earliest convenience as spaces are limited. We already have 60 confirmed attendees for the event.

If you cannot attend but would like to support the statement, please tweet us @CHCymru or email bethan-samuel@chcymru.org.uk

The hashtag for the launch is #dontgetbitten.

Please note: This is a free event but registered delegates who do not attend will incur a £15.00 non attendance fee to cover any costs.
