Meet Georgina Shackell Green, Public Affairs Assistant at CHC
Hello! I am Georgina, CHC’s new Public Affairs Assistant. I will be supporting Aaron, the Assistant Director of Policy and Public Affairs, with (among other things) political monitoring, organising events and research.
I’m new to both public affairs and housing, so I’m looking forward to learning more about this field and seeing what this role will entail. Public Affairs Assistant is a new role to CHC as well as for me, so it will be exciting to shape and develop it as time goes by.
Prior to this, I worked for Action for Children as a Support Worker. This led to me wanting to work in an area which has the ability to influence changes to legislation which impacts on people’s lives. This role will give me an opportunity to do that by lobbying and influencing for positive change to housing in Wales. I am particularly looking forward to the research aspects of the role, as well as writing briefings and blogs. Research and essay writing were areas I really enjoyed at university and something I have missed doing over the last few years.
At university, I read English Literature, before continuing with a MSc in Global Ethics. As part of my master’s study I undertook a placement with Dignity in Dying, a campaign group lobbying Westminster for changes to the assisted dying laws. This gave me some experience of how lobbying organisations work, which will help me to understand some aspects of how my new role with CHC will contribute to the organisation as a whole.
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone, including members, external stakeholders and Assembly/Parliamentary staff and seeing what this role will bring me and CHC.
