CHC statement: Affordable Housing Taskforce next steps
Today, Jayne Bryant MS, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, issued a written statement confirming full Welsh Government acceptance of the Affordable Housing Taskforce’s recommendations,
Hayley Macnamara, Policy Lead at Community Housing Cymru, said:
“We welcome the Welsh Government’s clear commitment to delivering more affordable and social homes, and the swift action to accept all of the Taskforce’s recommendations. This is a significant step that recognises both the urgency of the housing crisis and the importance of collaborative, cross-sector solutions.
Housing associations in Wales are ready to rise to this challenge. Our members continue to deliver 75% of all new social homes each year, and are committed to doing more.
We welcome the formation of the implementation group, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, as a vital next step. We are ready to collaborate with the Welsh Government and wider partners to translate the recommendations into decisive action. That means addressing persistent barriers in the planning system, improving access to land, tackling skills shortages, and providing funding certainty needed to accelerate the delivery of much-needed homes for Wales.
We look forward to discussing these recommendations and the next steps further with the taskforce's chair, Lee Waters, at our One Big conference in July”.
