CHC responds to housing needs announcement by Plaid Cymru
Plaid Cymru has today announced that a further 20,000 homes are needed to meet demand in the social housing sector in Wales.
The announcement by Plaid Cymru comes as a consultation is launched on how to resolve the housing supply problem in Wales, with Leanne Wood AM adding that an additional 2,500 homes are needed each year to meet affordable housing needs.
Aaron Hill, Public Affairs Manager at Community Housing Cymru said:
“We welcome the ambition set out by Plaid Cymru today to meet housing need in Wales, and to achieve targets for a low carbon future. Housing associations in Wales are focused on an ambition to build 75,000 new homes by 2036 as part of a vision of Wales where good housing is a basic right for all, and we stand ready to work with all those who share that aim.
“Welsh Government’s ongoing review of affordable housing has provided the sector with a once in a generation opportunity to create a policy environment to enable future developments and innovation, and continued and consistent support for housing associations is key to ensuring we tackle the housing crisis.”
