CHC responds to EHRC review of housing provision for disabled people

The Equality and Human Rights Commission's (EHRC) has published a report looking at the current provision of accessible and adaptable housing for disabled people.

In response, Community Housing Cymru Chief Executive, Stuart Ropke, said:

“We recognise the challenges set out in today’s report. There is a clear need for greater provision of more accessible and adaptable housing. It’s important to recognise the vital role housing associations are playing in ensuring there is an adequate supply of good quality suitable accommodation for disabled people.

“Despite imminent challenges, planning for the future is crucial. Our sector's Housing Horizons vision is to make good housing a basic right for all, and we now have data showing us the barriers and opportunities we will face over the next twenty years. The sector is using this intelligence to work together to build the right homes which will meet tenants’ needs.

“In addition, Welsh Government's recently announced review of affordable housing policy in Wales will help us analyse the standards to which we build homes, including further improving accessibility to disabled people.”
