CHC responds to £17 million boost for home energy upgrades

On Monday 20th July, the Welsh Government announced a £17 million investment in home energy upgrades, aimed at cutting household energy bills and tackling fuel poverty across Wales. This includes £8 million for the Optimised Retrofit Programme to retrofit social homes with energy efficiency measures, as well as £4 million for new area-based activities. 

In response to the announcement, Community Housing Cymru’s Head of Policy and Research, Elly Lock said:

"Investing in better homes means lower energy bills, better health, and a more resilient economy. We know rising bills are hitting housing association tenants hard. This additional funding for home energy upgrades is welcome news.

"To ensure this investment stretches far and wide, we are asking the Government to review and rephrase wider WHQS 2023 requirements, prioritising where social landlords can focus their investment, where it provides the greatest benefit for tenants. This should prioritise year-round healthy indoor temperatures through energy-efficient measures with low running costs.”
