In recent years we have seen increasing tensions, hate and harassment – online and offline. Yet, we know the power of social connection and its role in preventing harmful divisions. The Welsh Government has developed Cohesion Principles to help organisations across Wales embed ways of working that strengthen social connections, build common purpose, and increase resilience to harm — including hate, misinformation and escalating tensions.

Housing associations sit at the heart of our communities. Through everyday contact with residents, they are almost uniquely placed to prevent information vacuums, support reassurance, and help communities navigate change. This session will provide insights into the Welsh Government’s cohesion and hate policy work and explores how housing providers can apply the Cohesion Principles to reduce harm, strengthen trust, and support cohesive communities.
