Welsh Government announces additional £7m for Land for Housing scheme

An additional £7 million investment for the Land for Housing scheme is set to increase the supply of housing across Wales, Housing Minister Lesley Griffiths has said today. The Land for Housing scheme provides recyclable loan funding to Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) to purchase land to build new homes. The additional £7m allocated in the Supplementary Budget earlier this week brings the Welsh Government’s total investment in the scheme this year to £19m. This is in addition to the extra £20m allocated to Social Housing Grant which was announced last week.

Stuart Ropke, CHC Group Chief Executive, said: "We welcome the additional £7m investment to the Land for Housing scheme. This innovative scheme provides recyclable loan funding to the sector to assist with the purchase of land to build new homes, and will also create new jobs and training opportunities in construction. This announcement demonstrates that Welsh Government recognises the contribution of the sector to economic growth in Wales and we will continue to make the case for continued investment in housing as part of our Homes for Wales campaign.”
