The Welsh Apprentice Challenge - promoting housing as a career of choice
The first ever Welsh Apprentice Challenge was launched at Community Housing Cymru's Annual Conference on 19th November. 15 apprentices were nominated from all over Wales and were split into three teams. Each team faced the following challenge:
How can we promote housing as a career of choice for young people?
The three teams were made up of the following individuals:
Team A - Callum (Pembrokeshire Housing), Daniel (Tai Ceredigion), Deri (Bron Afon Community Housing), Joseph (Celtic Horizons) and Katie (Merthyr Valleys Homes). Team A was mentored by Brett Sadler, North Wales Housing.
Team United - Daniel (Tai Ceredigion), Demi (Cadwyn Housing Association), Emma (Celtic Horizons), James (North Wales Housing) and Lloyd (Valleys to Coast). Team United was mentored by Cheryl Tracy, Monmouthshire Housing.
Team C - Daniel (Taff), Emily (Cartrefi Conwy), Karolina (Monmouthshire Housing), Mathew (Coastal Housing Group), Oliver (Newport City Homes). Team 3 was mentored by Jason Wroe, Newydd Housing Association
After a day and a half of preparation, the three teams presented their ideas to conference delegates at the final session of the day. All three team members did a fantastic job of presenting their ideas, then it was over to the delegates to choose the winner... it was a win for Team 3! Julie James AM, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, presented the apprentices with their certificates and commented that their ideas and enthusiasm were refreshing and that the challenge was a great addition to the conference.
Many conference attendees have commented that the Apprentice Challenge was the highlight of the conference, and the challenge will certainly be back next year.
