Partnerships supporting communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf

Partnerships supporting communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf
As a result of Covid-19, the team at Trivallis has been working with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to provide support across the community. Here Tracey Cooke, Senior Regeneration Programme Manager, talks about the support they have been providing:

“At the beginning of the pandemic, the local council set up seven hubs across the county to make sure support was available to people needing to self-isolate. Trivallis got involved right from the start, working in partnership with the council and local health boards and fellow housing associations in the area.

We have been able to redeploy some of our staff to provide regular phone calls to people being referred through the community hubs. The team usually work with tenants providing advice on managing their tenancies, so they have been well placed to ask questions about tenant mental health and wellbeing, and making sure they are contacted as regularly as needed.

The services offered by these hubs haven’t just been for Trivallis tenants but the whole community, and just as we have been able to offer advice to people being referred to us, we have also been able to signpost our tenants to the support provided by other parts of the community, such as help with shopping.

To date, these hubs have helped around 10,000 people with everything from arranging shopping to supporting mental health.”

Alix Howells, Community Project Officer at Trivallis adds:

“I was redeployed to support the community hubs in March, and we’ve had some really lovely feedback from people who have appreciated having someone to speak with on a regular basis. It’s also been an opportunity for me to build relationships with people who may not have been identified as needing additional support before. We’ll now be able to offer ongoing help and advice to even more tenants, even after the pandemic is over.”
