Meet the Team: Bryony Haynes
What is your name?
Bryony Haynes (@bryonyhaynes)

Where do you work and what do you do?
Community Housing Cymru – Policy & External Affairs Assistant

Why did you choose a career in housing?
Through my background in environmental lobbying, I came to realise the overlaps between that sector (and many others) with housing. Good quality housing can affect so many other aspects of someone’s life. I wanted to work in a sector that puts the livelihoods of others at the forefront of its’ goals. Also, the housing crisis shows little sign of slowing down and needs more pairs of hands!

What is the most important thing you have you learned since starting your career in housing?
Just how broad the sector actually is – especially here in Wales. From an outsider perspective, I would have never realised the sheer volume of activity that goes on in the sector before being a part of it.

What advice would you give someone applying for a job in housing?
Be open-minded. It is a very flexible sector that will welcome you with open arms and so selling your skillset rather than your initial knowledge is the most important thing.

Where would you be working, if not in housing?
I studied meteorology, so maybe something weather-related.

What motivates you?
Making a difference to people’s lives as much as possible.

What do you do to relax?
Watching really trashy reality tv that doesn’t require much thinking.

Proudest moment?
I’ve developed a fear of heights in recent years but managed to reach the highest point in Dubrovnik on a recent holiday so I was pretty proud of that!

The most embarrassing moment?
I once tripped up on the London Underground and went flying down the carriage with bottles of wine smashing in tow…

What was the last film you watched and how did you rate it?
Two Weeks’ Notice (on Netflix). Standard chick-flick to fall asleep to – 6/10.
