Meet the team: Aaron Hill

Meet the team: Aaron Hill
What’s your name?
Aaron Hill

Where do you work and what do you do?
Head of Policy and External Affairs at CHC

Why did you choose a career in housing?
I spent the first few years of my life living in social housing, but I actually had no real idea what a housing association was until I started at CHC in 2011! I was looking for a campaigning role because I wanted to make a difference and I stumbled across the organisation. I was immediately hooked by the positive impact HA's have on so many people’s lives. I actually left in 2014 to explore other policy areas, but housing gets in the blood, and it wasn’t long before I found my way back.

What is the most important thing you have learned since starting your career in housing?
The importance of good housing to so many other areas of policy. We’re setting ourselves up to fail as a nation on health, education and environmental outcomes if we don’t have good homes.

Where would you be working, if not in housing?
Something sport or food related, I imagine.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
The interesting, committed and passionate people I meet every single day.

What motivates you?
Trying to make positive change so that kids from “the dodgy bit” of Bridgend like me can have the opportunities that I’ve had in my life. That wouldn’t have been possible without social housing!

How do you relax after work?
A very balanced combination of sport, craft beer, exercise and cooking.

What’s your greatest achievement?
Great Western Railway Cricket Club U16s Bowler of the Year (2004)

Your most embarrassing moment?
Falling in a river full of leeches while descending down the wrong side of Scafell Pike during the Three Peaks challenge.

What was your last holiday destination and what did you think of it?
Krakow. What I remember of it was great…
