CREW Conference to highlight Welsh Government investment in Ebbw Vale

CREW Regeneration Wales, the Centre established to promote best practice in integrated, sustainable regeneration, is holding a conference at the Ebbw Vale Works site to highlight the significant Welsh Government investment there over the last ten years.

CREW Chief Executive, Professor Dave Adamson, said “This conference will explore the investment that has been made at the site of the former Ebbw Vale Steel Works since it closed in 2002, and will look forward to the work that is continuing on the site”.

A little over ten years ago the Government decided that such was the potential impact of the closure on the people and town of Ebbw Vale, that a concerted effort was required to regenerate the site.

The two day conference, which will take place on 11th and 12th July at Coleg Gwent’s The Learning Zone Campus at The Works, has attracted a range of speakers who will profile the various aspects of the work that has been undertaken. Speakers are drawn from a mixture of those directly involved in the project delivery, and those who bring a wider contextual perspective.

Professor Adamson added, “One of the most significant aspects of the site has been the substantial investment in educational facilities, including a new ‘Through School’ Learning Community, a new state of the art College Campus, a new swimming pool and sports pitches, and an environmental resource centre. These facilities provide a high quality environment for education delivery in Blaenau Gwent.”
