CHC welcomes latest house building figures from Welsh Government
Community Housing Cymru Group (CHC) has welcomed news that Welsh Government is set to exceed the 10,000 affordable homes target. Figures out today (21 October) reveal that 89% of Welsh Government’s target to provide 10,000 additional affordable homes during this Assembly term have been delivered by Welsh housing associations with more than a year to go.
Commenting on the announcement, Group Chief Executive of Community Housing Cymru (CHC), Stuart Ropke said: “The affordable housing figures released today by the Welsh Government are very encouraging. We particularly welcome the recognition of the hard work and achievements of Welsh housing associations in their contribution to the 10,000 target, which comes after our sector made a Housing Supply Delivery pact with Welsh Government earlier this year. Our members’ commitment to building and providing homes is clear and this work will continue up until we deliver the target, and beyond.
“Housing associations are vital to the economic and social wellbeing of Wales – providing 158,000 affordable homes, and supporting more than 20,000 jobs in the Welsh economy. In order for the sector to continue to provide this substantial contribution to the economy, employment, training and the availability of homes, the sector needs the continued support of the Welsh Government through its investment in Social Housing Grant.
“On behalf of our members, CHC will continue to work closely with Welsh Government to ensure that there are homes available across Wales and that the wider benefits of a strong housing movement are felt by all in order to bring an end to the housing crisis and build a stronger Wales. We will continue to champion the availability of decent affordable homes through our Homes for Wales campaign during the coming months.”
