CHC responds to the Welsh Government’s first supplementary budget of 2026-27
On Tuesday 23rd June the Welsh Government set out its supplementary budget for 2026-27. A supplementary budget is used by a government to make in-year changes to its current spending plans.
£294 million of spending has been allocated towards Plaid Cymru's policies, including a £100 million cash injection into the NHS and £20 million for new social homes.
In response to the budget, our Deputy CEO Clarissa Corbisiero said:
“Housing is Wales’ ultimate prevention infrastructure. When we get housing right, the benefits are felt everywhere.
Today’s announcement of further in-year investment in social housing indicates this new government’s commitment to ending the housing crisis.
Housing associations are ready to turn the housing recovery into reality, giving more people the security of a safe place to call home.
However, we have concerns over a cash flat settlement for the Housing Support Grant, which funds housing advice and support services, crucial in preventing and responding to homelessness.
Looking ahead to autumn, we need a long term plan that provides a sustained commitment for housing associations to deliver more homes, better homes and healthier and fairer places. This includes additional investment to keep people from reaching housing crisis.”
