Getting there

At CHC, we encourage sustainable travel to our events. Here are the best ways to reach the venue.

By bike

There’s external bike parking available outside the main entrance to Sbarc. Please note that the venue or CHC cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to bicycles that are stored there.

By train

Sbarc is only a 10-minute walk from Cathays train station. Check the map below for the quickest route.

There are regular train services from Cardiff Central to Cathays train station. You can plan your journey here.

By bus

There are several nearby bus stops on Maindy Road, Cathays Terrace and Albany Road, all with easy access to the Sbarc building. You can plan your journey here.

Parking

There is accessible parking available at the front of Sbarc for Blue Badge holders. Please let us know if you’d like a space, we’ll make sure one is available for you.

There is on-street pay and display parking along Maindy Road, and the surrounding area. You can use the MiPermit app (available on Google Play and the App Store) to pay for parking or call the number on the signage displayed by the parking bays. However, spaces are very limited and for a maximum of 5 hours, so we strongly recommend the use of public transport.

Celebrating diversity

At CHC, we are working hard to ensure our events not only reflect the diversity within our member housing associations and the communities they serve, but also celebrate it.

We are committed to providing spaces where all our delegates feel comfortable, valued and respected.

This includes designating spaces for religious practice and taking into consideration the needs of neurodiverse attendees.

Read on to find out how we are putting this into practice at our Governance Conference.

We are always learning and open to feedback, so if you have any comments, please do not hesitate to get in touch at enquiries@chcymru.org.uk

Ramadan Mubarak!

This year's Governance conference will be taking place during the holy month of Ramadan. In light of this, we are committed to ensuring that all our Muslim colleagues feel supported and included throughout the event.

Local Mosques

  • Madina Mosque, Lucas Street, CF24 4NZ
  • Shah Jalal Mosque Cardiff, 19 Crwys Road, CF24 4NJ
  • Dar-ul-Isra Mosque, Scout Hall, 21-23 Wyeverne Rd, Cardiff CF24 4BG
  • Al-Manar Centre Trust, 2-4 Glynrhondda St, Cardiff CF24 4AN
  • Cardiff Tawheed Centre, 22 Salisbury Rd, Cardiff CF24 4AD

The above listed mosques are all within a 20 minute (or less) walking distance of the conference venue.

Prayer room

A prayer room is available at Sbarc for the duration of the conference. Please speak to a member of the event team at the registration desk, who will be happy to take you to the room. Dates will be provided later in the day, for those that may need to break their fast.

Catering

Catering is being provided right outside the main event space. The breakout area on the first floor will be catering free and available for the comfort of those fasting. Signage will communicate this to delegates.

How can I support my colleagues observing Ramadan?

Don’t assume, communicate:

  • Don’t be shy about asking Muslim colleagues if they will be observing Ramadan.
  • Some people may choose not to take part – perhaps for medical reasons – as fasting is a personal choice.
  • 'Ramadan Mubarak’ This means ‘Blessed Ramadan, may Ramadan bring us blessings’. It's the equivalent of saying Happy Ramadan and is the most popular and well-known greeting.
  • 'Ramadan Kareem’ This means 'Have a generous Ramadan', wishing people many good rewards during the month.

Be considerate:

  • Ramadan should not interfere with everyday tasks at work, but fasting co-workers may be tired or lacking energy during the day.
  • If you are aware of colleagues who are fasting, be considerate when meeting up with them during the event, avoiding times when you are likely to be eating.
