WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND:
The course will give participants an understanding of the principles of POVA guidance and legislative background.  It will assist staff in understanding their role in the protection of vulnerable adults and how the process works.

TARGET GROUP:
Staff involved in the management of provision of services to vulnerable adults, in particular staff working with the following service users:  elderly people, people with learning difficulties, mentally ill adults, chronically ill adults.

COURSE AIM:
• that staff have an understanding of the legislation surrounding the protection of vulnerable adults;
• staff clearly understand the worker’s role within this area;
• understand the local authority role in protecting vulnerable adults;
• develop an understanding of the processes and challenges when seeking to protect vulnerable adults.

COURSE CONTENT:
• Defining who is the vulnerable adult;
• What do we mean by abuse? – difficulties in definition;
• Why do people abuse? Who could be the abusers?
• What legislation governs their protection? – the processes required to ensure that organisations and workers are complying with legislation;
• How do you spot abuse? The possible indicators; the risk indicators;
• Case Studies;
• POVA process;
• Organising disclosure: management structures to support the worker.
